In 2012, I took a summer writing class.

On a short break after my second year of teaching first grade, I was determined to become the best writing teacher I could be. And if I’m honest, something in me simply felt called to write.

During that intense and beatuiful week, I wrote a narrative that helped me learn two things about writing–

Writing holds tremendous healing power & is an extraordinary way to honor the memory of a lost loved one

it can forever change the clarity with which you view your own perspective on the world.

You see, writing about that special memory with my dad was twofold…

I cried, I laughed, I let myself sink deep into the experience of that moment.

And I expereinced the joy and priviledge of experiencing that moment over & over again as I wrote.

Capturing the reflections of a moment allows it to become a part of you more fully.

A lasting impression on your heart that is unique to you and your own writing adventure.

I invite you to join me for the Heart-Mending Wordsmith course here, if you’re interesed in writing a story about a treasured memory of your own.

The other thing writing that narrative did, was it gave me a window into the way I see the world.

I learned that through my dad’s illness and death, I learned that nothing is ordinary.

I’d uncovered the belief & outlook & perspective that says everything is extraordinary, if only you have the courage to take a closer look.

It takes courage to slow down.

It takes courage to have the patience to wander & reflect & open up to allow yourself to really see the truth that might be there glistening under the surface.

Like I said, it just takes the courage to take a closer look.

To know that nothing is ordinary and that everything is extraordinary…

This was the way this moment had changed my life, sitting there with my dad watching the sprinklers come on.

And I didn’t even realize it until I’d written it down.

This is the revelation that led me to start this blog in 2013, originally titled Embrace the Extra{ordinary}.

I went on to become a trained life coach and now…

I love helping people use writing to heal their hearts,

tap into their inner strength, guidance and wisdom

and bring their writing forth to inspire others and change the world.

It is such an honor and a joy, and I’m so glad you’re here.

I’m so glad to know you & I look forward to getting to know you better.

I do my best to publish something new on the blog every week, so stick around, sip a cup of tea, and let’s enjoy exploring this beautiful & extraordinary world together through writing, connection, and love.
